Terms
Consignment terms
A plain-language summary of how a Hudson Horological consignment works. The signed consignment agreement is the controlling document and you receive it in full before anything ships.
Title and custody
You retain full ownership of the watch throughout the consignment period. Placing a watch on consignment is not a sale to Hudson Horological. We hold the watch as consignee for the purpose of selling it on your behalf, and we do not pledge, borrow against, or use consigned property for any other purpose.
Reserve price
Every consignment carries a written reserve that you approve before the watch is listed or shown. We will give you our honest opinion of the market and may recommend a different number, but the reserve is yours to set. No sale below the reserve is made without your written consent.
Term and withdrawal
The standard consignment term is 90 days from the date the watch is received and authenticated, renewable by mutual written agreement. You may withdraw the watch at any time on written notice, with no penalty and no fee, except where an offer at or above your reserve has already been accepted in writing. Withdrawn and unsold watches are returned to you insured at our cost.
Fees
The consignment fee is a percentage of the final sale price, determined by the tier the sale price falls into:
| Final sale price | Fee |
|---|---|
| Under $10,000 | 20% |
| $10,000 – $49,999 | 15% |
| $50,000 – $149,999 | 12% |
| $150,000 and above | 10% |
The fee is deducted from the sale proceeds at settlement. There is no listing fee, photography fee, authentication fee, or storage fee, and no fee of any kind is owed if the watch does not sell. Collections, estates, and multi-piece lots may be quoted on separate terms, which are stated in the agreement.
Third-party costs
Costs such as servicing, refinishing, manufacturer extracts, third-party authentication, or freight beyond the inbound insured label are quoted to you and approved by you in writing before they are incurred. Approved costs appear as itemized line items on your settlement statement. Nothing is spent on your watch without your sign-off.
Insurance
Consigned watches are insured in transit in both directions and while in our custody, at the agreed value stated in your consignment agreement. A copy of the applicable coverage terms is provided with the agreement before you ship. Shipping is on a prepaid, insured label we issue, with signature confirmation.
Disclosure
We disclose to you, and then to any prospective buyer, everything material we find: replaced or service parts, refinished dials or cases, aftermarket components, non-matching bracelets, prior polishing, and any authenticity concern. If a piece cannot be authenticated to our satisfaction, we will not list it, and we will return it to you at our cost with an explanation of why.
Settlement and payout
Payment is issued by wire or check within three business days of the sale proceeds clearing, accompanied by an itemized statement showing the gross sale price, the consignment fee, any approved third-party costs, and your net proceeds.
Buyer terms
Watches purchased from Hudson Horological are sold with a full written condition file and a seven-day inspection period from delivery, during which the watch may be returned for any reason in the condition in which it was received, for a refund of the purchase price. Return shipping on an inspection-period return is at the buyer's cost unless the watch was misdescribed, in which case it is ours.
Taxes
You are responsible for any tax consequences of the sale of your property. Hudson Horological does not provide tax, legal, or investment advice, and nothing on this site or in a consignment agreement should be read as such. Consult your own advisor.
Estimates are opinions
Market ranges, recommended reserves, and valuations we provide are professional opinions based on available market data at the time they are given. They are not guarantees that a watch will sell, or that it will sell at any particular price.
Last updated September 2026. Terms may be revised for new consignments; the agreement in force for your watch is the one you signed.
